Prague International Music Festival

Prague Spring festival is considered to be a prestigious European Classic Musical festival. It was first held in 1946 in honor of Czech Philharmonic Orchestra on its 50th anniversary on 12th May. This date was chosen as it was on this day, famous Czech national music composer, Bed rich Smetana died. This festival takes place every year under the patronage of the country`s president.

Prague Music Community took deep long efforts for nearly 70 years to hold an annual event to bring together first-class soloists and orchestras around the world to showcase their talents. It always represented world music culture and world class artists gather here to give their performance.

This Prague festival is held every year in spring from May 12th – June 3rd. The opening concert of this music festival will be held at Smetana Hall of the Municipal House, where Smetana`s `My Country` will be performed by the North German Radio Orchestra under the baton of Thomas Hengelbrock. This is the first time a German Orchestra is giving a performance where the audiences assembled in Prague will hear the symphonic poem differently.

This festival has become a member of European Festivals Association and International Artist Managers` Association. This year marks the 70th year of existence, being a truly International event, which has welcomed to its stages, greatest artists, most important Czech and foreign artists, orchestras and music ensembles. It has always maintained high artistic standards with elite musicians all over the world performing in its halls.

This Grand Music Spring Festival offers 45 classical music concerts with 90 orchestras, soloists, chamber ensembles from 20m countries in 14 magnificent concert halls. Excellent artistic personalities of eminence and renown to perform at this 70th edition of the festival are Sir Antonio Pappano, Julian Rachlin, Murray Perahia, Sa Chen, Vilde Frang, Maria Joao Peres, Vasily Petronko and many others. The famed orchestras are Budapest Festival Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Bach Collegium of Japan will be participating in Prague Music Festival for the first time.

Music shows and concerts are held in various halls of Prague. Venues for the concerts are the Capitular Hall of the Grand Prior Palace, Tuscany Palace, Dvorak Hall, and Imperial Hall of the Lobkowicz and others.

Concerts of Chamber music, early music, theater shows, opera, popular music are held during this festival.
